Caribbean Dressing Table

This furniture art piece was done for a client who wanted a whimsical focal piece for her bathroom that would also serve as a functional place to get herself ready to go out. The concept was a table that was made as if from parts from a shipwreck on an tropical island. The basic table is shaped to look as if carved from a solid piece of wood, with the drawers having the look of silk lined drawers pulled from a steamer trunk. The top is carved to look like the ocean with a glass top and the two converging trees that grow from the top support the bamboo mirror and foliage canopy. The tree trunks house the mirror lighting and the canopy has small hooks to hang jewelry from. The entire upper sculpture is entirely shaped from steel including the leaves and mirror surround. The painted foliage panel in the foot well is backlit and serves as a nightlight for the room. The panels that cover the sides are as if from a sailing ship and the bright colors tie into the other room elements such as the tile and wall colors and help create the sense of this being made form “found items” . There is an integrated power outlet in one of the drawers and the drawer if lined in metal to allow the client to keep her hair dryer in there, and not have to plug it in every time she wants to use it. This piece is a good example of our ability to marry an artistic vision with practicality and function.
