The Design Process
Working With Clients
We approach each commission as an artistic endeavor, trying to find what the goals and objectives of the project are and what the client is trying to ultimately say through the selected medium. Every project is a unique experience, and the end result a true work of art in every respect.
The first step is to meet and exchange ideas, look at visual reference materials and brainstorm. By discussing all the possible avenues to explore, we don't limit the imagination. We often find new and exciting directions emerge through this dialogue.
A proposal will then be created for the project, outlining the goals, time frame and estimated expenses. If this is accepted, the project goes into the design studio.
A period of design and collaboration is next. This is arguably the most important step in the process. In this time, we will create specific design materials, sketches, models, and samples to help refine and clarify the project. Collaboration is the key ingredient here, as it sets up the direction we will take in the next phase of the commission and makes sure the end result fulfills everyone's expectations.
Once the design work is relatively completed, the shop work begins. This is where the craftsmanship, aesthetics and artistic signature truly set our work apart. As the project takes shape during this fabrication process, the dialogue and collaboration continue. Often once you see something in three dimensions, your mind brings new ideas to the table, and these need to be discussed.
The finishing process and delivery are the final aspects of a commission. The client will often have seen the project many times during it's creation, but to see it in it's final form is always an important moment. Every piece is fully documented with the specifics of its creation, including design and construction details, photographs and all the reference and technical materials. Everything specific to the project is included with it, as it ensures the piece, or pieces will not be duplicated for anyone else, as every commissioned work that comes out of our workshop is unique.
